Monitor size

Post by UP^AlterRed on 10th February 2013, 17:22

Hey guys. Thinking of picking up a new monitor but i'm a bit unsure of the ideal size. 120hz is a given so anything above 1920 resolution goes out the window, basically. So, i'm torn between 24" and 27". In principle i'd like to go for the bigger one since prices are about the same, but at the same time i'm worried that it'll almost be "too" big, so that you'll need more effort scanning everything that's happening in the game, and essentially lose valuable time in twitch situations.

Any thoughts? What kind of monitor setup are you guys on?

Got 27" Acer HN274H 120Hz as gaming screen atm. Not too big, easier to spot those campers even leaning back. Planning to change it to Asus 27" VG278HE 144Hz as soon as nVidia releases their new Titan.

I have HP 24 inch, S-IPS panel. It's good sized, maybe 27 inch would be too big in my setup, but I have been considering 27 inch as well but still will stick on this 24inch. If you have enough distance to panel, I wouldn't worry about the size. My desk is a bit too small so I should buy bigger desk first Smile (or at least deaper).

I have a Benq 24 inch and I prefer that since I feel that 27 is a bit big for me and my set up atm but you have to feel it yourself

At the moment I'm running on a Samsung SyncMaster BX2431 Full-HD LED and I must say it's the best screen I ever had. It has a lot of presets and a great contrast ratio.

Personally I think 27" is a little bit to big.

Yeah, in the end I went with this one:
http://www.asus.com/Monitors_Projectors/VG248QE/

Colours were absolutely horrible out of the box (common complaint for this screen), but found some Windows colour profiles that got them working again.

Apart from that - absolutely lovely screen. 144Hz refresh rate, feels fantastic to not have to cap the framerate @ 60fps anymore.

Did I become better? Probably not. Did it make the game more enjoyable? Hell yes.

Really really good buy.

Just looked over the specs and it really seems to be a smart choice indeed.
Unfortunatley my budget wasn't prepared for a screen like that so I had so settle with less good specs.

But however I'm planning my next monitor will absolutely be more to 120Hz and above..

Good to hear you made a right choice! Smile Now improve you gaming skills with your sick refresh rate Razz
