So... China Rising. First impressions?

Post by UP^AlterRed on 3rd December 2013, 02:28

Seems like an ok mix of maps, if a bit too vehicle centric for my tastes. Smile

Only ran a round of Conquest on these to get an idea of the maps.

Gulin Peaks: Good fighting and the least vehicle centered of the maps. The circle layout makes getting flags an endless spiral though. A bit like it was chasing flags in Talah Market. Transport heli with 2 decent gunners / reppers will dominate this map. Bomber doesn't seem to do much here. Like the cavern complex by the D flag. Getting an Uncharted vibe from this map in general. I like.

Silk Road: Well, if you like Armored Shield in a Firestorm setting, you're in luck. Little cover, endless desert and a metric shit ton of things to drive. I like the arid terrain but the round I played was mostly waiting for vehicles, as you can't get anywhere on foot, and if you get on anything less armored than a tank you'll get chewed up in a second. Some of the flag locations seem almost designed so that a bomber can wreak absolute havoc over everthing in the cap range. My least favourite of these maps.

Altai Range: Now this seems fun. Getting a Caspian Border vibe from the map. Terrain is quite varied so I can see infantry having its uses here.

Dragon Pass: Very Vietnamish layout, heavier vehicle warfare in the jungle but still not a whole lot to do as infantry. Sits somewhere between Gulin and Altai.

Have a feeling Domination / TDM will be pretty sweet on Gulin & Dragon.

Yeah, tried it a few times @ Gulin. Air raid sirens go off on the entire map, which is cool at first but annoying after the 10th time, since the bomber respawns pretty quick. Not like you're running for cover the same second you hear the sirens. Smile

The bomber is on rails and does one pass across the map. You have 4 bombs I think, point reticule at the things you want to go boom and click. Didn't manage to kill anyone with it, mostly because you can't see shit unless you have a team that actually spots your enemies.

You get into the bomber by capping the corresponding flag and going into a mobile command unit. Got there and there was basically a scrum outside it with enemies all trying to get inside it first. Good times were had with a M82A3 which someone had kindly left outside for me. What a Face

So I loaded up DOM/TDM on the training server and.. well. 3 out of 4 don't seem to be more than an afterthought by the map designers.

Gulin is actively bad, Silk is pretty open but a bit better and Altai looks like camper heaven.

Dragon pass however.. we've found our new Noshahr Canals. :'D

Looks like they designed that part of the cq map purely for TDM & DOM purposes.
