Green screen - gfx card failure??

Post by UP^StevieZombie on 26th July 2013, 07:24

Hi guys

Just installed a new CPU (AMD FX8350) tonight and now when I boot up I get lots of green horizontal lines across the screen (during BIOS and POST) and very low resolution. Windows buts up fine but the problem persists and it's all very low res (like running in safe mode). It's the same for both of my monitors. The system detects the new CPU fine and temps are fine.

Anyway, I reinstalled the old CPU but I still get the same problem. I think I've done something to my GFX card (ASUS GTX 660TI DC2) because I had to remove it from the motherboard in order to pop the release on my CPU fan (a massive 110mm Zalman copper blade type thing). Not sure what though. I've tried swapping the power cables and tried a different pci-e slot, but still the same.

Wish I had a spare GFX card to test.

Any suggestions, other than returning the card to ASUS?

Hmm, sounds a bit scary, meaning maybe u have to return card to Asus. If u have checked cables then one thing is that u can try that with other computer.

Do you have onboard craphics in that motherboard?

EDIT: Nvm, I think it's busted. RMA it.

Unfortunately no other computer to test it on and no on board gfx. I'm definitely going to RMA it.

Shame the laptop is hopeless for running games! Guess I'll have to do something productive with my time for the next couple of weeks. Sigh...

I'm tempted just to buy a new graphics card and sell the old one if and when it gets repaired/replaced. I can't be doing without my computer for too long, I'll go mad...

If you buy a new one, I suggest you go for AMD for the BF4.

I don't recommend current AMD cards for gaming due big frametime issues with them, but maybe next generation which is rumored to have BF4 bundled.

Well I still think that less problems with AMD than Nvidia with BF3 anyway and for BF4 AMD will be good because game is developed with co-operation with DICE.

Back up and running!!! Bought an MSI GTX 760 Gaming, which arrived this morning (I took the day off work). Just waiting for ASUS to get back to me with an RMA for the old card. Their customer service is a joke.

Yes. Asus is quite well known of their customer service. Like clanhost.nl.

I ended up getting a full refund from Amazon. And because the 660 ti cost almost exactly the same as the 760, I effectively got a free upgrade. Result!
